World Tourism Day

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is marking World Tourism Day by issuing a call-to-action to the residents of the district to be stay-at-home tourists this autumn and winter and become Find Our Fermanagh Omagh Tourism Ambassadors.

As part of a five week campaign, the Council is encouraging residents to share their experiences of days out in the district and make recommendations of great places to visit and activities to undertake right here on their own doorstep across the district.

Speaking about World Tourism Day, the Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Chris Smyth said,

“we are incredibly fortunate that we have a world class tourism product on our doorstep with stunning landscapes and spectacular waterways together with such wonderful tourist attractions like the Marble Arch Caves UNESCO Global Geopark and the Ulster American Folk Park, both of which are world renowned.

Earlier this summer, the Vice Chair, Councillor Coyle and myself enjoyed a whistlestop tour of the district while promoting the Find Our Fermanagh and Omagh initiative and enjoyed some of the magnificent scenery and attractions which make our district special.

To mark World Tourism Day, and as we all set our sites a little closer to home for our breaks in these challenging times, I can think of no better place to enjoy a staycation than the Fermanagh and Omagh District, somewhere I am proud to call home.”

Prizes are on offer on a weekly basis for a photo of the best staycation experience in the Fermanagh and Omagh district submitted by residents of the district.

To take part, all you have to do is share your stories and photographs on Instagram of hidden gems or excellent visitor experiences you have uncovered across the Fermanagh and Omagh district and tag the Council using  #FODCInstaygram hashtag. You can also share on facebook and tag the Council in using #FODC.

So get sharing to be in with a chance of winning some fabulous prizes which will be on offer over the next four weeks and also become a Tourism Ambassador.
