Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, in association with Sport NI, is delivering  parent and baby exercise classes as part of the National Lottery-funded Every Body Active 2020 programme.
The free classes offer new parents the opportunity to get out and get active in a social setting with other parents.  Council coaches will lead a walk/jog and introduce some light fitness, for parents who have brought their infants along  in a pram or buggy.

The programme begins at 9.30 am in Omagh on Thursday 26 September, meeting at the Hospital Road Community Centre and in Enniskillen on Friday 27 September meeting at Fermanagh Lakeland Forum. Each class will last for one hour.

Speaking about the forthcoming programme, the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Siobhán Currie said:

“Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is delighted to be working in partnership with Sport NI as part of its National Lottery-funded Every Body Active 2020 programme to provide this opportunity for our young parents to get active. This programme offers parents the opportunity to enjoy some light exercise while at the same time benefitting from social interaction with other parents without sacrificing precious time with their infants. Addressing inclusivity and social inclusion are key objectives in the Council’s Corporate Plan and quite often new parents can feel a sense of isolation. Programmes such as this can help to tackle this issue and deliver this objective.”

Sport Northern Ireland Chair George Lucas commented:

“Sport NI is delighted to be investing over £6m of National Lottery funding in the 11 District Councils across Northern Ireland. By working on the delivery of Every Body Active 2020 we will begin to see real changes in sport and physical activity participation – especially amongst women and girls, people with a disability and those in areas of greatest social need.  We look forward to seeing the impact of our investment for people in our communities, helping them to enjoy, engage and excel in sport and leading to a population which is more active more often.”

Participants must complete and return a registration form and are required to attend a post natal check with their GP before attending this programme.
