A host of events took place across the Fermanagh and Omagh district on Friday 18 September to celebrate Culture Night 2020 through a mix of live and online events covering almost 7 hours of entertainment and talks.

Starting at 4.00, the diverse programme of 19 events kicked off with a talk by Jim Ledwith on the music, instruments, song, dance and poetry of the Mumming tradition in Fermanagh and closed with a selection of jazz standards and contemporary hits presented by Omagh Jazz and Big Band Festival.

Many people availed of the opportunity to attend the live events with the weather encouraging those to attend the outdoor events while thousands more joined the online events.

Speaking about Culture Night, the Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Chris Smyth said,

“Just a few months ago, it was difficult to envisage how Culture Night would be celebrated this year. However, thanks to the dedication, commitment and support of the wonderful arts fraternity in the district, we were able to put together a fantastic programme of live and online events which truly was a celebration of our rich cultural heritage. I would like to thank all the groups and individuals who gave of their time and expertise to make Culture Night 2020 such an truly enjoyable experience.”

Coordinated locally by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Culture Night is an all island celebration of culture, heritage, creativity and the arts.
