Councillors raise local issues with Martina Anderson MEP

A delegation of Fermanagh and Omagh District Councillors met Martina Anderson MEP at the Grange, Omagh on Friday 24 January 2020 to discuss a number of key issues for local residents and businesses in relation to the UK’s exit from the European Union.

Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Siobhán Currie welcomed Martina Anderson MEP to the Grange where she met with a number of Councillors.

During the meeting Martina Anderson, MEP, discussed potential impact on funding streams, environmental and consumer protection, regulatory alignment, democratic representation, migrant worker issues and concerns about the agri- food industry.

She noted that Fermanagh and Omagh District Council had recognised the challenges presented by Brexit in establishing a Statutory Committee to oversee a coordinated response. Martina also provided insights into the operational framework of the European Union and the importance of lobbying to highlight issues of concern.
