In line with the NI Executive’s Pathway to Recovery programme, and as part of a programme for the phased return of the delivery of services at its outdoor sports facilities, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has confirmed the reopening of its artificial football pitches across the district from Monday 6 July 2020. Initially, the pitches will be open only for use by affiliated clubs.

The reopening of the artificial pitches to the public follows on from the successful reopening of the tennis courts at the Bawnacre Centre, Irvinestown and the running track at both Fermanagh Lakeland Forum and Omagh Leisure Complex in the last few weeks. The bowling greens at Omagh Leisure Complex and at Celtic Park reopened for use by club members at both venues from Monday 29 June 2020.

Councillor Chris Smyth, Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, said, “the Covid-19 pandemic has presented us with unprecedented challenges over the last few months. As we move forward, the importance of looking after our physical and mental health and well-being cannot be overstated. I am delighted that the Council has been able to progress to reopening some of the Council’s outdoor sports facilities, albeit with some restrictions on who can use them, thereby affording members of clubs in particular, the opportunity to get out and get active.”

The bowling greens at Omagh Leisure Complex and Celtic Park, Enniskillen will also reopen for use by club members from Monday 29 June 2020.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council will continue to be guided by advice from the Northern Ireland Executive and the Public Health Agency with regard to the reopening of internal Leisure facilities.

The reopening of outdoor sports facilities to individuals and non-affiliated groups will be kept under review.

The Council’s grass pitches remain closed for essential maintenance.
