Council to illuminate Enniskillen Castle and Strule Arts Centre, Omagh on selected dates in October

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council will illuminate Enniskillen Castle and the Strule Arts Centre, Omagh on selected dates throughout the month of October in support of a number of charities and initiatives.

On Sunday 4 October 2020 Enniskillen Castle and the Strule Arts Centre will be lit up red to mark World Dyslexia Day and to help raise awareness and challenge the misconceptions which surrounds Dyslexia.

Both buildings will then be illuminated blue on Monday 5 October 2020 on behalf of the Huntingdon’s Disease Association for Northern Ireland to raise awareness of Huntingdon’s Disease, a rare genetic disorder.

Purple Flag Month will be marked on Friday 9 October 2020 with both buildings being illuminated purple by the Council. Enniskillen and Omagh both have Purple Flag status in recognition of providing a diverse and vibrant mix of dining, entertainment and culture while promoting the safety and well-being of visitors and local residents.

On Thursday 15 October 2020 Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is lighting Enniskillen Castle pink and Strule Arts Centre blue on behalf of SANDS NI during Baby Loss Awareness Week, 9 – 15 October 2020.

Saturday 24 October 2020 will see Enniskillen Castle and the Strule Arts Centre illuminated blue on behalf of the United Nations Association Northern Ireland to mark the 75th anniversary of the ratification of the United Nations charter and the founding of the United Nations.

Both buildings will then be illuminated purple on Thursday 29 October 2020 to mark World Stroke Day at the request of the Stroke Association for Northern Ireland.

To complete the illuminations for October, both buildings will be lit up orange to mark Halloween on 31 October 2020.

Both buildings were also illuminated purple on Wednesday 1 October 2020 to mark Positive Ageing Month. Positive Ageing Month, organised by the Western Health and Social Care Trust and lead partners Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Public Health Agency and South West Age Partnership, highlights groups and activities available to older people in the Fermanagh and Omagh area and includes a programme of live and virtual events taking place throughout the month to promote positive ageing.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council illuminates buildings to recognise days of significance to groups within the wider community.
