Council to host range of free events for European Heritage Open Days

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has organised a number of free events as part of this year’s European Heritage Open Days (EHOD).

Taking place from Monday 6 to Saturday 12 September 2021, EHOD is an annual celebration across Northern Ireland of local architecture, history and culture.

Speaking about this year’s European Heritage Open Day programme of events organised by the Council, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Errol Thompson, said:

“The Council is pleased to offer a range of free in person and online events as part of this year’s European Heritage Open Days.

The programme has events to suit a range of age groups and interest and provide a great opportunity to discover and enjoy the area’s local heritage.”

In person events include:

Friday 10 September, Talk on the Musical History of Omagh, Strule Arts Centre, Omagh  
Join Don McGurgan and Declan Forde for a talk on the musical history of Omagh. This enjoyable and entertaining talk will roll back the years to highlight the rich musical history of the town. Booking essential, please visit www.struleartscentre.co.uk.

Saturday 11 & Sunday 12 September, Free ‘Take 5’ tour at Enniskillen Castle
Visitors can enjoy the exhibitions and galleries of Fermanagh County Museum. Please note that The Inniskillings Museum galleries remain closed.  Booking is essential and places are limited, please visit www.enniskillencastle.co.uk/whats-on

Saturday 11 & Sunday 12 September, Free West Side Story: Enniskillen Historical Walking Tour, meet at Enniskillen Castle
Have an enjoyable and informative guided walk around the west end of Enniskillen. The scenic walk takes in key architectural features as well as social and boating histories related to the island town. Booking is essential and places are limited, please visit www.enniskillencastle.co.uk/whats-on

From Tuesday 7 September, 3pm, Virtual Gortmaconnell Jeep Safari in English and Irish 
Ranging from the rugged upland cliffs to the weathered limestone landscapes on the lower ground, this safari is a chance for you to experience and explore the patchwork of landscapes found on Gortmaconnell from the comfort of your home by logging onto the Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark website at www.cuilcaghlakelands.org.
