Council Seeks Expressions of Interest for Culture Night

17th July 2018

PLEASE NOTE: This article is over 1 year old and may not contain the most up-to-date information.

Fermanagh & Omagh District Council  is seeking expressions of interest from community, arts, cultural, heritage, sports and other groups across the district who are keen to take part in this year’s Culture Night by organising a local event.

As part of this year’s event, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council will provide support to 12 constituted groups across the district with up to £250 of financial support together with  assistance with marketing and publicity.  The Council is particularly keen to hear from rural groups who have been under-represented in previous Culture Night events.

Culture Night, which will take place this year on Friday 21 September 2018, is an annual all-island public event that celebrates culture, creativity and the arts.  The focus  will be on celebrating culture through local communities and groups will have the opportunity to celebrate their townland, village, town or community’s culture. The event may take the form of a performance, demonstration, display of work, mini festival, exhibition, talent competition, open night or many other things!

Culture Night sees arts and cultural organisations and venues of all shapes and sizes, including the National Cultural Institutions, extend their opening hours to allow for increased access to the public. Special and unique events and workshops are specifically programmed at participating locations and everything is available free of charge.

Culture Night has grown from a relatively small scale cultural event staged only in Dublin in 2006 to the significant national cultural event it now is, with some 400,000 people visiting museums, galleries, historic houses, artists’ studios and cultural centres across the island. The initiative has captured both the public imagination and the enthusiasm of artists and cultural organisations.

The closing date for expressions of interest in participating in culture night is Monday 30 July 2018
