Council to host one day Irish, Ulster Scots and Scots Gaelic language and culture festival

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council will present a one day festival of Irish, Ulster Scots and Scots Gaelic language and culture in Strule Arts Centre, Omagh on Saturday 27 January 2018. The annual event includes classes, workshops and a concert.

Irish language classes for beginner, improver and advanced levels and a Scots Gaelic class for all levels will run from 10.00 am – 4.00 pm with a lunch break from 1.00 pm – 2.00 pm. Noeleen Ní Cholla, a prize-winning traditional singer from the Donegal Gaeltacht, will give a workshop in singing in Irish and Scots Gaelic from 4.00 pm – 5.00 pm. This will be followed by a workshop from 5.00 pm – 6.00 pm where local musician Mark Carmichael will compare and contrast the piping traditions of Ireland and Scotland.

The festival will be brought to a close with a celebratory concert at 8.00 pm. The concert will feature songs from Noeleen Ní Cholla with accompaniment from Noel Ó Dúgáin, a member of the legendary Donegal Gaeltacht group, Clannad, followed by a performance from Celtic Folk / Ulster Scots group Camhanach. Led by Mark Carmichael this group of musicians will perform Irish and Scottish songs and music on pipes, whistles, flute, guitar, bouzouki and banjo.

Féile Gaeilge, Gáidhlig agus Ultaise in Ionad Ealaíne na Sruthaile

Reáchtálfaidh Comhairle Fhear Manach agus na hÓmaí féile aon lae de theanga agus chultúir Gaeilge, Gáidhlig agus Ultaise in Ionad Ealaíne na Sruthaile, An Ómaigh Dé Sathairn 27 Eanáir. Beidh ranganna, ceardlanna agus ceolchoirm ann mar pháirt den fhéile seo.

Tosnóidh na himeachtaí ar 10 rn le ranganna Gaeilge do fhoghlaimeoirí Gaeilge ag bun, meán agus ard leibhéal agus le rang Gáidhlig do fhoghlaimeoir de gach leibhéal.

Idir a ceathair agus a cúig a chlog san iarnóin beidh ceardlann amhránaíochta ar siúl faoi stiúir Noeleen Ní Cholla, amhránaí traidisiúnta clúiteach ó Ghaoth Dobhair a cheolann i nGaeilge agus i nGáidhlig. Díreach ina dhiaidh sin ón a 5 in – 6 in beidh ceardlann píobaireachta le Mark Carmhichael ina mbeidh an ceoltóir aitiúil seo ag cur na traidisiúin phiobaireachta a mhaireann in Éirinn agus in Albain i gcomórtas lena chéile.

Cuirfear clabhsúr ar an fhéile le Ceolchoirm ar a 8 in. Beidh Noeleen Ní Cholla ag ceol ann le tionlacan from Noel Ó Dúgáin, ball den sárghrúpa Gaeltachta, Clannad. Ina dhiaidh sin beidh ceol agus amhráin de chuid na hÉireann agus na hAlban le cloisteáil ón ghrúpa ceoil a bhfuil Camhanach mar ainm air. Grúpa rac-cheol ceilteach atá sa ghrúpa seo a sheineann ceol ar na piobaí, na feadóga, giotár, bainseó agus bouzouki.
