Fermanagh and Omagh District Council Chair, Councillor Diana Armstrong, has condemned acts of vandalism to Council property carried out in the Omagh area recently.

Over recent days, the OASIS Plaza in Omagh and a number of trees, trig points and road surfaces at Gortin Glen Forest Park have been daubed in graffiti. A number of litter bins were also damaged at the forest park.

Condemning the vandalism, Councillor Armstrong, said:

“At a time when we are focused on supporting our town centres to recover from the impacts of Covid-19 and where access to parks and outdoor spaces is so important for health and wellbeing, it is appalling that anyone would deliberately damage these important resources within our community.

I would like to thank the Council’s Parks and Open Spaces team for repairing the damage so quickly so that the areas remain open and welcoming to members of the public. However, this all comes at a cost to ratepayers, with Council staff and resources being diverted from elsewhere to deal with clean up and repair works.

Any wilful damage to Council property is reported to the PSNI and the Council actively pursues prosecution.  Should anyone have any information in relation to vandalism at the OASIS Plaza or Gortin Glen Forest Park they should report it to the PSNI.”
