A reception was held on 11 March 2019 at the Grange, Omagh, by the Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Howard Thornton, in recognition of Rallycross Champion, Derrick Jobb.

Speaking at the reception Councillor Howard Thornton said, “As Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, I am delighted to welcome you all to the Grange this evening. I would like to extend a particularly warm welcome to our guest of honour, Derrick Jobb, in whose honour this evening’s reception is being held. Derrick, you and your family are most welcome.

It is always an honour to acknowledge citizens of our district who have excelled in their chosen field of sport or work. The Fermanagh and Omagh district has so many talented citizens and I have been deeply honoured and humbled to recognise the achievements of so many during my term as Chairman.

This evening we are gathered in recognition of the sporting achievements of Derrick Jobb who has been a major name in the sport of rallycross for over 30 years. Indeed, Derrick, you and your MK2 Escort have achieved many successes across the tarmac and loose gravel of rallycross tracks across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Derrick, your list of successes over the years is seriously impressive and proof beyond doubt that you are indeed a champion in your field. Indeed 30 years ago this year, you were crowned Division 3 European Champion in Mondello Park just outside Dublin where you shared the rostrum with 2 world champions. When you won the Irish title in 2007, you left two former British Champions in your slipstream and just last year, you were crowned British Retro Champion securing the Kenneth Hanson Perpetual Trophy in a season which included two wins and two seconds.

Derrick this is an exceptionally impressive list of championship titles over the years and is testament to your enthusiasm and dedication to your chosen sport which would appear given your most recent wins appears to remain undiminished.

Derrick, as Chairman of the Council, I am proud to acknowledge and celebrate your great achievements in rallycross over the years and in doing so you have been a tremendous ambassador for the District and you have been a wonderful exponent of the sport.

I know my fellow Councillors will join me in congratulating you on your tremendous achievements and to wish you, your team and your family every success for the future.”.
