Around 250 primary school children from schools in the Omagh area participated in a traditional Irish Céilí in the Strule Arts Centre, Omagh, on Friday 8 March 2019.

The Primary Schools Céilí or Céilí na mBunscoileanna, marked the beginning of the St Patrick’s Day festival in Omagh and offered children from the participating schools the opportunity to learn a number of Irish Céilí dances. These included The Walls of Limerick; The Siege of Ennis; The Waves of Tory; A Barn Dance; Shoe the Donkey and a line dance called An Dreoilín.

The participating schools were Gaelscoil na gCrann, St Joseph’s Primary school, Drumquin, St Patrick’s Primary School, Eskra and Knocknagor Primary School, Trillick.

With live traditional music provided, the toe tapping, hand clapping Céilí allowed the children to put all their hard work and dance tuition into action while having lots of fun.

The Primary Schools Céilí was just one of a number of events organised by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council as part of its St Patrick’s Day celebrations in Omagh.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council also supports the St Patrick’s Day festivities in Enniskillen.
