A two day film course aimed at those with an interest in documentary filmmaking will take place on Saturday 8 and Saturday 15 June 2019 at An Creagán with Bob Gallagher, Artsland International Artist in Residence.

Bob is a director, writer and cinematographer from Dublin, now based at An Creagán until June as part of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s Artsland programme.

For the two day film course, Bob will draw on his own training with master filmmaker Werner Herzog, to illustrate some basic principles of DIY documentary film making.

The first session of the film course, taking place on Saturday 8 June from 11am-4pm, will include basics of camera and lighting; basics of sound recording; interview technique; mock interview setup; and approaching coverage for edit.

Topics covered on the second session, taking place on Saturday 15 June from 11am-4pm will include submitting content to film festivals; uploading to online platforms and sound mixing and music use.

Course participants should have an idea of an accessible subject or character that they would like to document with the aim of producing a short documentary film by the end of the two day course. The course is suitable for novices and those with some documentary making or filming experience.

Filming outside of course hours will be required with equipment made available to participants if necessary for the duration of the course.

Artsland is funded by Arts Council NI and Fermanagh and Omagh District Council and involves artists from across the globe living, working and creating in the Fermanagh and Omagh district. Each artist delivers a programme of social engagement activities with a variety of local community, youth and other groups, across all three themes of Artsland – Arts for All; Multiple Identities; and Loughs, Bogs & Mountains.

Bob’s short films have been screened at festivals internationally and his music videos have been featured by some of the world’s leading music and arts publications. He was declared a ‘Good Soldier of Cinema’ by renowned film director Werner Herzog after studying with him in Cuba, where he created two short films alongside the master filmmaker. Bob has recently begun exploring the medium of 3D photography and has just completed his first solo exhibition ‘Forced Perspectives’.
