Arts and culture venues open doors for free for Culture Night

Culture Night

A host of arts and cultural venues and attractions in the Fermanagh and Omagh district will open their doors for free for this year’s Culture Night taking place on Friday 20 September 2019.
Coordinated locally by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Culture Night is an all island celebration of culture, heritage, creativity and the art. From late afternoon to after dark, a range of free entertainment, discovery and adventure will be on offer across the district.

Launching this year’s Culture Night programme of events for the Fermanagh and Omagh district, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Siobhán Currie said:

“Culture Night is a fantastic celebration of our arts, heritage and culture providing our citizens and visitors to the district with the opportunity to sample our rich heritage and culture offering.

This year’s programme has a wide range of cultural activities for all ages, right across the district, giving people a unique opportunity to try any number of creative experiences in one evening. There really is something for everyone.

The Council is pleased to support more than 20 Culture Night events through sponsorship or providing event space in Council venues and I would like to thank all those groups and organisations that have given up of their time so freely to showcase all that Fermanagh and Omagh has to offer.”

Events and activities taking place in the district include those from Erne District Chinese Families and Friends;Hungarian Association of Northern Ireland; Kirlish Ulster Scots Association; and Benaughlin CCÉ.

There are opportunities to experience different world cultures, participate in local craft with Lisnaskea Knit and Natter, hop aboard the Culture Express for a tour of art exhibitions in Enniskillen, and to enjoy a music or dance event such as the Eddie Duffy & Mick Hoy Traditional Music Festival in Derrygonnelly, Scottish Country Ceilidh dance in Mountfield, traditional music and dance at Dun Uladh Cultural Centre, Omagh Protestant Boys Flute Band playing melody music in Edenderry and the Asha Choir at Strule Arts Centre.

Other events include poetry readings and prose with the Open Door Poetry Group in Omagh’s Strule Arts Centre or Fermanagh Folk Tales in Enniskillen Castle.

Just Sing children’s choir will perform in Omagh Library, a Kids Culture night will take place at St. Ronan’s Primary School, Lisnaskea while there will also be opportunities to tour Sacred Heart Church in Omagh or stroll through the town itself with Tyrone Roots.
