WorldHost Food Ambassador

World Food Ambassador

Published: 3rd March 2017

Tourism NI in partnership with Fermanagh and Omagh District Council recently hosted two very successful WorldHost Food Ambassadors training programmes, which were attended by nearly 50 participants, across two venues, the Silverbirch Hotel, Omagh and the Lough Erne Resort, Enniskillen.

The Programme, which aims to help Northern Irish food producers build upon the NI Year of Food and Drink 2016 and to showcase their produce and sell Northern Ireland as a foodie destination, provided training for front-line staff to develop their skills and knowledge which in turn will help boost sales for the businesses they work for.

The WorldHost Food Ambassador is a recognised and accredited training programme tailored specifically for Northern Ireland’s acclaimed food and drink industry. Put simply, it is about customer service that sells!

The training programme, developed by Tourism NI, People 1st and Food NI/Taste of Ulster provides:

  •  Experiential learning and includes a wide range of local food and drink tasting;
  • Up to date knowledge on all that is happening in our growing food and drink industry; and
  • the confidence and knowledge needed to tell the stories of our local produce.

The two courses run locally were financially supported by Tourism NI and the Council, resulting in a subsidised rate for the participants and which included all food tasting and WorldHost Food Ambassador training materials and certification on completion of the training programme.

In addition, any business which has at least 50% of its frontline staff completing the World Host programme can apply for a WorldHost Recognised Business Award.
