How to Save a Baby and Child’s Life courses at Fermanagh Lakeland Forum

Published: 3rd November 2016

Nine out of ten parents don’t know basic first aid skills that could help them to save their child’s life, and only 20 per cent of parents in the UK think that they could resuscitate their child – research from the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) shows.

The Fermanagh Lakeland Forum, Enniskillen, is now offering the Royal Life Saving Society UK’s (RLSS UK) Save A Baby’s Life and Save a Child’s Life courses in November to help reduce these figures and give parents and others who care for children in the area the confidence to put emergency lifesaving skills into practice if, in the unlikely event, a baby or child’s life is threatened.

Save a Baby’s Life and Save a Child’s Life workshops will take place in the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum on Wednesday 16 November 2016.

The workshops will be delivered by the Forum’s trained staff who will cover basic life saving techniques and provide advice on what to do when a baby or child stops breathing, or how best to deal with a choking or drowning situation. Using a life-like manikin, participants will learn how to perform basic CPR and first aid as they would in a real life situation.

Chairperson of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Mary Garrity, said:

“The Council is pleased to offer these life saving courses which are designed to equip residents with the vital skills they would need in order to attempt to save a baby or child’s life in the event of an emergency.

I encourage people, who care for babies or young children on a regular basis in the district, to sign up to these life saving courses.”

Emma McManus, Manager at the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum, said:

“The hands-on style of learning delivered by the Forum’s qualified staff through the workshops will help participants to understand life saving basics which will stay with them for life.

The aim of the workshops is to ensure that parents and others who care for babies and children feel confident and calm to deal with an emergency situation safely and if one life is saved as a result of the workshops, it has been a success.”

The Save a Baby’s Life and Save a Child’s Life workshops will take place at the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum, Enniskillen on Wednesday 16 November 2016 starting at 8 pm and 9 pm respectively. The workshops last one hour and cost £10 per person per workshop attended.
