Santa Dash & Dander returns to Omagh

Published: 6th December 2016

Following last week’s highly successful first ever ‘Small Business Saturday’  this Saturday, 10 December 2016, sees the welcome return of the highly popular Santa Dash and Dander event. The ever popular Santa dash and traditional Santa Dander are ideal events for all the family to participate in and enjoy.

The Santa Dander which will run from 12 noon to 4pm is a family fun treasure-hunt type activity involving following a map to find the 12 items on Santa’s list.  All those participating in this event will get a free Santa hat and sweets.  On completion of the hunt, participants are asked to return to the base located in the marquee beside the Danske Bank, where all activity sheets will be collated and 10 winners will be randomly chosen to receive a present kindly sponsored by SuperValu.

Following on in the afternoon  the fun continues when at 3.30pm enthusiastic runners dressed as Santa will sprint from the Danske Bank to the Courthouse.  Participants will each donate £10 to charity and in return will be provided with a Santa suit and the opportunity to win the much coveted Reindeer Cup.

Throughout the afternoon there will also be a medley of street entertainment including music, face painters, street entertainers and balloon modelling.

Commenting on the Santa Dash and Dander, the Chairperson of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Mary Garrity urged as many people as possible to take part in both elements of the event.

“This is the penultimate event in Omagh’s busy schedule of Christmas activities and is a great opportunity for families to take part in the merriment during a fun filled afternoon.  Whether participating or just spectating, the Santa Dash and Dander is a great day out for the whole family,” she said.

Next week, the last of the Christmas events in Omagh will  be a second ‘Seasonal Saturday’ when yet again shoppers will have the opportunity to shop locally and to support local businesses, again to a backdrop of a feast of family entertainment.
