Roof Top Museum to open at Strule Arts Centre

Mystery Objects Case

Published: 7th February 2017

The Roof Top Museum, which will be launched at the Strule Arts Centre on Saturday 11 February 2017 at 11 am, represents the first steps towards a museum collection for Omagh and the surrounding areas.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s Museum team have put together an interesting first collection, which includes archaeological artefacts from an excavation that took place in Alanagh, a townland outside Carrickmore in 1979. Also on display are some toys from the past which includes a remarkable carved wooden clown doll with a hand painted face, a children’s newspaper and a tinplate clockwork aeroplane. There is also an opportunity to test your knowledge as you try to guess what items are contained within the mystery objects display.

On the day of the museum’s launch, museum staff will be happy to discuss any suggestions you may have about what you would like to see in future displays, or the process of donating objects to the Roof Top Museum. Children can enjoy free activities including storytelling, pottery with clay and crafts and they can discover more about toys from the past. To celebrate the opening, Strule Arts Centre will also be showing kids movie ‘A Night at the Museum’.

The Roof Top Museum will be officially opened by Vice Chairperson of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Bert Wilson. The launch event is open to everyone. The Roof Top Museum opening times will then be 9.30 am until 5.00 pm, Monday to Saturday. Admission is free.
