The Roof Top Museum at Strule Arts Centre, Omagh was officially opened on Saturday 11 February 2017. The opening represents the first steps towards the development of a museum collection for Omagh and surrounding areas. Speaking after the opening, Vice Chairperson of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Bert Wilson said “I was delighted to launch the Roof Top Museum at the Strule Arts Centre, which is a really innovative concept which I am confident will be a great starting point from which to develop a superb attraction both for the Arts Centre and the town.”

On the day of the launch, the younger visitors to the Roof Top Museum enjoyed playing with toys and games from the past, listening to some fascinating children’s stories and sculpting and painting clay pots. For others in attendance, they were able to view the various collections on display, including artefacts from an archaeological excavation that took place in Altanagh, a townland outside Carrickmore in 1979 and a selection of interesting toys from bygone days. Some even put their knowledge to the test by challenging themselves with the mystery objects display.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council are about to commence a series of monthly ‘Meet the Museum team’ dates, starting on Tuesday 28 February at 2pm. This will provide an opportunity for members of the public or interest groups to call into the Strule Arts Centre to discuss future development plans for the Roof Top Museum and the process of donating items to a future collection.

The Roof Top Museum opening times are 9.30am until 5.00pm, Monday to Saturday. Admission is free. For further information please contact the Strule Arts Centre on 028 8224 7831 or email strulearts@fermanaghomagh.com
