Reuse facilities extended across the district

Reuse scheme

Published: 6th June 2016

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has extended its reuse facilities across the district to Drummee, Enniskillen; Irvinestown; Kesh; and Lisnaskea recycling centres.

The extension of the reuse scheme has been made possible through £52,265 funding from the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs Rethink Waste Capital Fund which has enabled the Council to purchase reuse containers, a mini loader vehicle and informational signage.

Through the scheme residents can now bring their unwanted household bulky items such as wardrobes, tables and chairs to recycling centres in Enniskillen; Irvinestown; Kesh and Lisnaskea where they will be collected by registered charities, refurbished andreused in the community. Charities interested in participating in the scheme should contact the Council to register.

Residents can also donate unwanted usable paint at the four recycling centres, in addition to the recycling centres in Gortrush, Omagh; Fintona; Dromore; and Carrickmore, where the reuse scheme is already in operation. This paint is then made available, free of charge, at the recycling centres to residents and community groups for use in the home, garden or on community projects.

Speaking about the extended reuse facilities across the district, Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly, said:

“Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to reducing the environmental and financial costs associated with sending waste to landfill. The Council is grateful to the Department for its financial support to provide these additional outlets for residents where they can bring useful items that they no longer want and make them available to those that do.

We can extend the life span of items through repair or restoration, turning waste into a valuable resource. The reuse scheme provides economic, social and environmental benefits to the local community and I encourage residents to get involved in this very worthwhile programme.”
