Published: 30th September 2015

Registration is now open for the prestigious Waterways Ireland Erne Pike Fishing Classic which takes place from 16 to 18 October 2015.

The event, which involves approximately 400 anglers fishing along various stretches of Lough Erne, is a partnership between Waterways Ireland, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure (DCAL), National Coarse Fishing Federation of Ireland (NCFFI) and the Erne Anglers Angling Club.

With an estimated prize fund of approximately £12,500, subject to participant numbers, anglers can register to fish the event for one, two or three days. The cost to enter the competition is £37.50 per angler per day.

Speaking about the forthcoming Waterways Ireland Erne Pike Fishing Classic, Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly, said:

“It is wonderful to see the return of the Waterways Ireland Erne Pike Fishing Classic to Lough Erne for a tenth year. We look forward to welcoming both new and returning anglers to the district for the 2015 Waterways Ireland Erne Pike Fishing Classic.”

John Boyle, Director with Waterways Ireland stated:

“Waterways Ireland has supported this Pike Competition since its inaugural year, recognising the ability of the event to extend the fishing season on the Erne and increase awareness of the superb angling opportunities available to competitive and leisure anglers in Fermanagh. It has been hugely successful in achieving those goals and we welcome all the new and returning anglers in 2015 to enjoy themselves immensely when they are here”.

David Burleigh, Erne Anglers Angling Club, said:

“Erne Anglers are proud to be involved with the running of this event as it has grown to be what is now the largest Pike fishing Competition of its type with participants flocking yearly to the lure of a world class venue, Lough Erne and to enjoy the hospitality of Co Fermanagh.”
