Paddle sport classes for young people with a disability

Published: 14th January 2016

Young people with a disability will have the opportunity to try out paddle sports with the launch of a new programme by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.

The free, six week programme will take place in Fermanagh Lakeland Forum’s swimming pool. The programme will enable 11 – 18 year olds with a disability to receive expert coaching on a range of paddle sports such as canoeing and stand up paddle boarding. All necessary equipment will be provided.

Speaking about the new paddle sport programme, Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly, said:

‘As a keen paddler, I am always encouraging others to try the sport. Paddling is a great way to get active, build confidence on the water and most importantly have fun.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to providing opportunities for our residents to get active and I am delighted to see that young people with a disability will have the chance to try paddling.’

The six week paddle sport programme starts on Monday 18 January 2016 at Fermanagh Lakeland Forum at 9.30 pm.

Participation on the programme is free of charge, however places are limited and allocated on a first come first served basis. Participants on the programme must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or carer for the duration of the session.
