New exhibition of Tyrone artwork at Strule Arts Centre

The 2nd Tyrone Open Submission Exhibition opened on 15 January 2016 at Strule Arts Centre, Omagh.

The exhibition, which is organised by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, follows a call for entries last October from artists who were born or currently live in Co. Tyrone. It includes more than 40 pieces of work by 20 artists.

Artworks, all of which are on public display for the first time, include paintings and drawings in pencil, oil, acrylic, watercolour, ink and print together with work created from glass and textiles.

Officially opening the 2nd Tyrone Open Submission Exhibition, Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly said the Gallery at Strule Arts Centre offers a platform for local artists to showcase their work.

“The Tyrone Open Submission Exhibition gives artists the opportunity to submit their work as part of a group which is particularly beneficial to those who as yet do not have an extensive enough portfolio to put together a solo exhibition,” he said.

“Based on the quality of work on display, I am confident that some of those exhibiting will join other Tyrone artists like Felim Egan, Comghall Casey, Clement McAleer and Victor Sloan at the top table of the visual arts fraternity in Ireland,” he added.

Councillor O’Reilly congratulated all those involved in this year’s exhibition and encouraged as many people as possible to view the exhibition which continues at Strule Arts Centre until Saturday 13 February 2016.

The Gallery at Strule Arts Centre is open Monday to Saturday from 10.00 am to 5.30 pm. Admission is free.
