Omagh Independent Traders’ Weekend

Published: 27th June 2016

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council continues to support local retailers in Omagh and diversity on the High Street.

From Friday 1 to Monday 4 July 2016, consumers are encouraged to buy at least one item from their local, independent store to celebrate Independent Traders’ Weekend 2016.  This national campaign champions our local retailers who make our local towns and villages special and unique.

Independent Traders’ Weekend in Omagh is aimed at recognising the huge contribution our retailers make to our local communities and to the wider economy.  Over the weekend, retailers are invited to participate in the initiative and offer special discounts and promotions to encourage shoppers to spend a little extra.

A programme of entertainment suitable for all the family will take place in Omagh town centre on Saturday 2 July from 12 noon to 3pm and includes the Bob Quick Jazz Quintet, balloon modellers and face painters.

Commenting on the Independent Traders’ Weekend the Chairperson of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Cllr Mary Garrity said “This very successful initiative is now in its sixth year. The Council is fully supportive of the independent traders and individual businesses which give Omagh its unique character. Many of our independent traders are long established local businesses, and I would encourage everyone to support them as much as possible for the benefit of our community. For every £1 spent with a local, independent business, between 50p-70p circulates back into the local economy. The music and street entertainment in the town centre on Saturday afternoon will create an enjoyable summer atmosphere to encourage people into the town centre”.

Independent Traders’ Weekend is an excellent event to showcase Omagh’s vibrant and dynamic independent retail sector with its high levels of choice, quality and customer service. Shoppers from far and near are welcomed to experience everything that Omagh has to offer and benefit from many of the special offers available in stores across the town centre. Please see the list of special discounts and promotions on the right of this page.
