The Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly, has launched an innovative Mobile App aimed at promoting the district as a place to live, invest in and visit.

The unique App, which is free to download on smart phones and tablets, will be used as a vital tool to increase the Council’s visibility and exposure particularly to attract foreign direct investment into the area.

The App was developed by the multi-national company WAVTEQ which is a leader in developing mobile apps for economic development organisations.  The world-wide company has a Centre of Excellence in Belfast.

The new Fermanagh and Omagh App which will be used by the Council to promote the area, provides wide-ranging information on the area for investors and tourists, as well as being immensely useful for local residents.

The app contain a wealth of information on the region’s infrastructure, including roads, transport, telecommunications, details of the workforce’s skills, education attainment, cost of living etc. It also has in-depth information on potential investment opportunities and sites, case studies on the region’s leading businesses, population details and narrative on the key towns within the district, which are of huge benefit to investors.

The App also features a host of useful and informative material on the varied tourist amenities throughout the district, from award winning tourism destinations, to stately homes, family days out, activity holidays, places to stay as well as a comprehensive section on what the area offers from a sports, tourism and arts perspective.

A comprehensive, interactive map, which pin-points key places of interest, the district’s leading businesses, investment sites, supports the information contained in the app.

Speaking about the development of the Fermanagh and Omagh App, the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly said that mobile apps have become an integral part of everyone’s lives and that this new device will prove to be a powerful and cost effective method of promoting the district.

“This new app provides key information specific to our region which will enable us to champion the district in an interactive way as an ideal location in which to invest, to live in and indeed visit.  The information is presented in a way that is easily accessible, easy to read and easily updated,” Councillor O’Reilly said.

Continuing, Councillor O’Reilly added: “the Council recognises the economic benefits that can be realised as the app can be used to promote our local development opportunities, promote the district as an ideal location for new businesses and investors as well as showcasing our area.”
