A wealth of local art will be on public display in the Omagh area on Friday 18 September 2015 as part of this year’s Culture Night.

Culture Night – an all-Ireland celebration of culture, creativity and the arts – involves local venues and organisations opening their doors to the public for free so they may experience and enjoy the local area’s cultural offering.

Nestled in the Castle Street area of Omagh, McKenna Gallery will be open from 10 am to 11 pm on September 18. The exquisite gallery, which boasts the latest in lighting and display systems, showcases the very best in collectible fine Irish art.

At The Crosshill Gallery, which specialises in contemporary art and hand crafted bespoke frames, visitors can enjoy live music and refreshments while browsing original art work on display.  There will also be a live demonstration by in-house glass artist, Edel Taggart and a number of workshops and activities for visitors to participate in. The Gallery is located on Omagh’s Brookmount Street and will be open from 6 pm to 10 pm for the Culture Night celebrations.

Tattykeel Design Studio, located on the Doogary Road, two miles outside Omagh, will be open from 5 pm to 11 pm on Culture Night. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet its artist, Kathleen Ward, who is well known for her fine art and textile art. A range of paintings, designer bags, hand painted silk scarves and unique textile pieces including hangings and framed works will all be on display.

At Omagh Community House, Omagh Ethnic Communities Support Group is hosting a unique ‘Cultural Chairs’ workshop from 6 pm to 9 pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to transform plain wooden chairs into colourful objects of culture using old magazines, varnish, glue and a little flair and imagination.

In addition to the local art events, there will also be an historical walking tour of Omagh and music, crafts, children’s, dance and open house events. All events and entertainment are free of charge.
