Live Here Love Here – it’s time for the BIG Spring Clean!

Big Spring Clean 2017

Published: 27th March 2017

Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful is asking community groups and individuals from all over Northern Ireland to register to take part in the BIG Spring Clean by organising a local clean up.

Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful BIG Spring Clean brings a focus on litter during the month of April, enabling businesses, schools, community groups and individuals to unite in the common cause to clean up and show that we live here and we love here.

Councils across Northern Ireland spent over £43 million on cleaning our streets and open spaces in 2015-16, an increase of 8% on the previous year.

During this period, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council spent a staggering £1.7 million on street cleansing and litter picking with a further £6000 on fly tipping. This is a financial burden to ratepayers and is money that could be spent on other facilities.

If you would like to participate in this year’s event, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council can help by supplying litter pickers, hi vis vests and bags as well as by collecting bags of rubbish after an event.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council encourages groups to separate and recycle rubbish were possible. Different coloured bags will be provided for the separation of recyclable material.

To arrange a litter pick please contact Anthea Owens, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council on 0300 303 1777 or email anthea.owens@fermanaghomagh.com.

Please note it is the responsibility of individuals and groups that are participating in the event to ensure that all risk assessments and health and safety precautions are in place and are adhered to.
