Omagh was the place to be for fans of Country music and dance on Saturday 5 August 2017, for Fermanagh & Omagh District Council’s outdoor jiving festival ‘Jive Live’ which took place on the OASIS Plaza. All age groups took to the dance floor to jive to some of the best Country music performers around. Dominic Kirwan was the headline act on the day with support from a talented line up of Country singers that featured Patricia Maguire, Pascal McAnenly, Lisa McCrory, Bronagh Broderick and Gareth Prichard.

Speaking at the opening of the jiving festival Fermanagh and Omagh District Council Chairman, Councillor Stephen McCann said; “The Council is fortunate to have at its disposal such an excellent outdoor shared space as the OASIS Plaza here in the centre of Omagh to host Jive Live. This was exactly the type of outdoor event the Council had envisaged when the idea for an accessible shared space in the centre of town was conceived”. Councillor McCann welcomed the re-emergence of jiving, particularly amongst young people; adding it had reinvigorated the live music scene in the area.

There was stiff competition to win first prize for the Adult and Junior Jiving Competitions with up to £1,000 worth of prize money up for grabs. Judging the competition on the day were James McGrath and Fiona Doyle from ‘Jivetastic’, winners of the 2016 Monaghan Town Country Jiving Festival, who had a difficult job deciding the winners from the array of talented participants. Winners of the Adult Jiving Competition were, Cathal Ward and Sara Davis with runners up William and Frances Nicholl, Donna Donnelly and Laura Gormley. Top honours for the Junior Jive went to Charley Love and Sophie Wilson, runners up were Kyra Gilmore, Dermot O’Donnell, Alicia Coyle and Teigan Barrett.
