Get active outdoors this autumn with free four day activity programme

A free four-day programme of outdoor activities for children and adults is set to take place as part of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s Autumn Activity Programme.

The Autumn Activity Programme, which aims to help residents get outdoors and get active across the Fermanagh and Omagh district, will include mountain, family and inclusive walks; and family cycles.

Speaking about the forthcoming Autumn Activity Programme, Chairperson of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Mary Garrity, said:

“The Council is pleased to organise a four-day activity programme to provide free opportunities for people to get out and get active this autumn. The Autumn Activity Programme is a great way for people to experience our wonderful outdoors and I encourage people to don their walking shoes and cycle helmets and avail of these opportunities this October.”

Activities over the four days include:

Saturday 15 October 2016
A Cuilcagh mountain walk for people aged 18 years old and over. Walkers will be transported from the Marble Arch Caves Visitor Centre, Florencecourt to Ballavalley Gap at 9 am to begin their ascent to the summit of the highest point in the Fermanagh and Omagh district, before making their descent along the boardwalk.

A family walk within the magical and fascinating Marble Arch National Nature Reserve’s Cladagh Glen, where walkers will meet cavers, search for fossils family walk, identify plants and much more along the way! The family walk will leave the Marble Arch Caves Visitor Centre at 2 pm. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

A family cycle in Enniskillen, organised in partnership with the Western Health and Social Care Trust, will be led by qualified National Standard Cycle Instructors, starting at The Ardhowen at 12 noon. The cycle will include a stop off point en route in the National Trust’s Castle Coole estate for fun family games and activities.

Sunday 16 October 2016
A 7 mile guided walk of Vinegar Hill, departing Barnes Gap car park at 9.30 am.

A family cycle in Omagh, organised in partnership with the Western Health and Social Care Trust, starting at Omagh Leisure Complex at 12 noon. The cycle will include a stop off point en route for fun family games and activities

Monday 17 October 2016
An inclusive walk suitable for people with a disability, their family, friends and carers will take place at the Lough Erne Resort, Enniskillen at 9.30 am.

Tuesday 18 October 2016
An inclusive walk suitable for people with a disability, their family, friends and carers will start at Omagh Leisure Complex at 10 am and bring participants through McCauley Park.

All walks and cycles will be led by qualified cycling instructors and walk leaders. Participation on all activities is free however places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
