Free Family Fun Day at Waterways Ireland Loughfest 2015

Published: 24th June 2015

This year’s Waterways Ireland Loughfest event will take place on Saturday 27 June at the Broadmeadow, Fermanagh Lakeland Forum, Enniskillen.

The annual extravaganza, a free event sponsored by Waterways Ireland and organised by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, promises to be a fun packed day for all the family with a range of activities taking place on Lough Erne and the Broadmeadow from 12 noon until 4 pm. Activities include climbing walls, bouncy castles, face painting, laser tag and much more.

Children aged 7 years old and over will also have the opportunity to try a new sport or develop a skill at the event with a series of free ‘Come and Try It’ canoeing, angling and rowing sessions from 10 am.

Places on the ‘Come and Try It’ activity sessions are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. To apply for a place, please complete and submit a registration form, available to download from the Waterways Ireland Loughfest webpage or by telephoning Chris Elliott, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council on 0300 3030 1777.

Waterways Ireland Chief Executive Dawn Livingstone described the ‘Come & Try It’ programme as ‘key investment by Waterways Ireland in getting more people of all ages involved in waterway and waterside recreation. The experience and skills developed by the young people participating in the free sessions are crucial to building their confidence on the water and engaging them in a sport that could become a long-term recreational activity.”

Speaking about the event, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council Chairman, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly, said:

“Waterways Ireland Loughfest promises fun for all the family.  A range of free activities will be on offer including firm favourites such as canoeing, bouncy castles and face painting. We’re also very excited to bring some new features to this year’s event such laser tag which will no doubt prove to be a fun activity for all.”

Admission to the event and all its activities are free of charge.
