Final countdown to Omagh’s Summer Carnival!

The countdown is on to this year’s Omagh’s Summer Carnival which takes place on Saturday 18 June 2016 at the OASIS Plaza from 12 noon to 5.00 pm.

With just days to go until the free family extravaganza, performers and local groups are holding final rehearsals before taking to stage at the OASIS Plaza this Saturday.

The summer carnival, with a theme, ‘A Taste of Summer’, has been organised by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.

A jam packed programme of family entertainment, including dance, drama, music, African drumming, circus skills, face painting, balloon modelling, street entertainment and much more, will be on offer at the OASIS Plaza throughout the afternoon. There will also be a number of food stalls offering a culinary taste of summer in celebration of Tourism NI’s Year of Food and Drink, with ice cream, milk shakes, crepes and cupcakes.

Pupils from Omagh County and Holy Family primary schools, as well as students from Erne College will perform with a world class beat boxer and musicians from Sri Lanka. There will also be performances from local groups including Omagh Academy’s Samba and Pipe bands, Dramatise Youth Theatre which will present the “Mad Hatters Tea Party” Eskra Community Arts Group performing hip hop dancing; Music Matters plus others.

A number of hands on African drumming; circus skills; cup cake decorating; and balloon modelling workshops will also be on offer throughout the afternoon where people are encouraged to get involved and have some fun!

As part of the summer carnival, entertainment will also be on offer in the town centre with Omagh Academy’s Samba and Pipe bands performing outside the Sperrin Centre between 12 noon and 1.00 pm and St Eugene’s Brass and Reed Band providing musical entertainment from 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm. Members of the ‘Mad Hatter’ samba band will also bring the carnival beat to Omagh town centre.

Speaking about Omagh’s Summer Carnival, Chairperson of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Mary Garrity, said:

“Omagh’s Summer Carnival promises to be a great day out for all the family with performances from local and visiting talent, family entertainment and fun, hands on workshops.

I look forward to welcoming residents and visitors alike to the event and I encourage people to make a day of it by visiting the local shops and restaurants which are just a short walk from the state of the art OASIS Plaza.”

All town centre car parks, including Omagh County Hall car park which is opposite the OASIS Plaza, will be open during the event.

The OASIS Plaza is fully accessible with ramp and lift facilities to the upper level. Hearing loop systems will also be available for the performances and event activities. Mobility scooters can be pre-ordered from Shopmobility for free for the day, before Friday 17 June 2016.

We are currently working on the basis that Council services will resume as normal tomorrow (Tuesday 17 October 2017) however we will be keeping this under review.
