Enforcement of parking restrictions at Strule Arts Centre

Published: 9th February 2016

Parking restrictions to the rear of Strule Arts Centre, Omagh are to be enforced due to health and safety concerns arising as a result of the illegal parking of vehicles in the area.

At its meeting on 2 February 2016, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council agreed to introduce the enforcement of parking restrictions to ensure access for emergency vehicles to Strule Arts Centre. On a number of previous occasions the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service reported it was unable to gain access to the rear of Strule Arts Centre due to parked vehicles blocking entry.

Disabled parking spaces, deliveries and refuse collection at Strule Arts Centre and to the rear of properties located on Georges Street have also been negatively impacted due to illegal parking in the area.

To address the issue and ensure access for emergency and service vehicles the Council has appointed a parking control and enforcement company to enforce parking restrictions in the area.

Unauthorised vehicles parked within the restricted area are liable to be issued with a £90.00 penalty notice (£45.00 if paid within 14 days of issue) by the parking control and enforcement company.  Clamping and towing of vehicles will be employed for repeat parking offenders.

Signage advising motorists of the enforcement of parking restrictions are currently being erected in the area. Council officers will also be on site in the short term to advise motorists parking in the restricted area that they are at risk of enforcement action being taken.

Motorists are advised to seek alternative parking arrangements in one of the town centre car parks.
