Council hosts procurement and tendering workshops for local businesses

Published: 19th January 2016

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is to host a series of events during 2016 to support the local business community with an array of topical issues relevant to local individual business needs.

The programme of events commences on Thursday 28 January 2016 with a Tendering and Procurement Workshop in Enniskillen, which aims to assist local businesses to bid for potential public sector and even large scale private sector contracts.

The “Winning Tenders” event is being held at Fermanagh Enterprise Ltd in Enniskillen Business Centre, Lackaghboy Road from 10.00 am to 12 noon and will address the difficulties that many local businesses experience in engaging with public and private sector tendering procedures.

To facilitate businesses from throughout the area, the same event will be held in the Strule Arts Centre in Omagh, also from 10.00 am to 12 noon, on Monday 29 February 2016.

A range of expert speakers will address both workshops, including representatives from Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s Procurement Section and the Central Procurement Directorate – the lead professional procurement body for Northern Ireland.

Attendees will also hear from speakers from InterTrade Ireland – the cross border business development advice service, and from Global Education (NI) Ltd – a multi-disciplinary consultancy agency which delivers a wide range of consultancy support programmes including business development and procurement services.

Speaking about the unique events, the Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly said he was delighted that the Council was not only to stage these much needed workshops but also that a large number of businesses in the district would able to avail of the opportunity to attend as they were being held in both Enniskillen and Omagh.

“Many companies find the process involved in bidding for public sector contracts in particular extremely daunting and these events should help to make it easier for small businesses to embrace opportunities presented through such prestigious, high value contracts,” he said.

The workshops will provide an insight into where public sector contracts are advertised, what buyers look for in a successful tender, common mistakes to avoid and how firms can increase their chances of winning a bid.

The events are free of charge and to register for either the Enniskillen workshop on  28 January or the Omagh workshop on 29 February or to obtain further information contact the Council’s Economic Development Section, based in the Sperrin Centre, 1 Market Street, Omagh on 0300 3031 777.

Details of the range of other events in the comprehensive package of programmes the Council will deliver throughout the year will be published in due course.
