Published: 6th April 2016

The Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly officially opened the new Bowling Green Pavilion at Omagh Leisure Complex on Wednesday 6 April 2016.

Developed at a cost of £175,000 the pavilion includes two changing rooms and toilets, an air-conditioned kitchen and dining room as well as an equipment store. The project was overseen by Council officers and carried out by MCC Buildings.

Speaking at the opening Councillor O’Reilly said it was the realisation of a long-held ambition of Omagh Bowling Club to have quality facilities where they can welcome visiting bowling clubs. He highlighted the Council’s support for the Cub over many years with the provision of a high quality, and excellently maintained, bowling green which is now complemented by the new pavilion.

“Omagh Bowling Club has a long history here and can trace its origins back to May 1984. It has enjoyed notable success winning both the Sunderland Cup and the Hyland Donaghey Cup as well as Border Leagues Titles. Members of the club have also held positions as President of the Northern Ireland Provincial Bowling Association and the Irish Indoor Bowling Association”, he added.

The Chairman concluded by congratulating Omagh Bowling Club on their new premises and wishing them every success in the season ahead.
