The Christmas festivities in Enniskillen will officially get underway with the annual switch-on of the Christmas lights on Saturday 26 November, commencing at 3.30pm until 5.30pm.

This traditional kick-start to the Festive Season will be held in the Diamond, Enniskillen and as always there will be a varied programme of family entertainment, with performances from the Marty Fay Band, Silver Bands, a cross community choir and much more. As well as the entertainment on stage, there will be street entertainers and face painters to keep the children happy while they await the arrival of the star of the show, Santa himself, who will be leaving the Townhall at 4.30pm to meet and greet the families gathered.

Speaking ahead of the Christmas Lights switch-on, the Chairperson of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Mary Garrity said, “The switch-on of the Christmas Lights heralds the start of the Christmas season and is a great afternoon of fun and entertainment for all the family. The turnout for the switching on of the Christmas illuminations is always well supported by locals and visitors alike and I would urge everyone to come along to the Diamond to see the island town being transformed into a wonderful display of entertainment, light and colour.”

To facilitate the switch-on event access via Water Street will be restricted from 4pm. A specially designated area at the front of the stage will be reserved for those with disabilities. As spaces in this reserved area are limited, bookings should be made in advance by telephoning 0300 303 1777 or by email to . ISL and BSL language interpreters will be available on stage throughout the event.

The switch-on of the illuminations is just the beginning of a bumper package of events to celebrate the festive season in Enniskillen. On Saturday 3 December, from 10am to 5pm, the Council will host its Christmas Craft and Food Fair, with stalls located in both the Townhall and in the Diamond, Enniskillen. On the following two Saturdays, 10 and 17 December, from 12 noon to 4pm, ‘Seasonal Saturdays’ will bring a mix of entertainment to the Diamond, with face painters, street entertainers and festive music helping to get shoppers and visitors into the festive spirit.
