Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has organised two ‘Come and Try’ bushcraft and survival skills sessions as part of an initiative to encourage more people outdoors.

Two sessions are available; Saturday 7 October 2017 at Gortin Glens Forest Park and Sunday, 8 October 2017 at Castle Archdale Forest Park commencing at 1pm and finishing at 4 pm. The free half day sessions are designed for young people aged 8 – 14 and will be delivered by fully qualified instructors. Among the skills being demonstrated are safe fire building, foraging and the construction of shelters.

Speaking about the upcoming events, the Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Stephen McCann said “I welcome these taster initiatives aimed at encouraging young people to embrace the great outdoors while at the same time learning some new survival skills and bushcraft.”

Places on the bushcraft and survival skills sessions are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. All participants must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or carer for the duration of each session.
