April Recycler of the Month

Published: 8th May 2015

Newtownbutler resident Angela Boyle has been named Fermanagh & Omagh District Council’s ‘Recycler of the Month’ for April 2015.

Each month Fermanagh & Omagh District Council awards £50 to a different householder who puts the correct items in their blue recycling bin.

The Council’s Waste Education Officers sample 250 blue bins every month, and addresses of the householders who present the correct items in their blue bin are entered into a prize draw. During April, bins were checked in the Newtownbutler, Magheraveeley and Roslea area.

Congratulations were extended to Angela, a long-time recycler who is always careful to place only recyclable items such as plastic bottles and newspapers in her blue bin. By taking off the top, washing and squashing the bottles, and then placing the top back on she makes more room in her bin and keeps it clean.

Residents throughout the district are becoming more aware of which items belong in the recycling bin, but there are still some unwanted items, which the Council cannot recycle, that slip through the net, for example takeaway food boxes containing grease and dirt, and plastic bags. Bins containing these incorrect items will not be collected.

For further information about recycling please contact Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s Waste Education Officers, Ann-Marie Cox at annmarie.cox@fermanaghomagh.com or Anthea Owens at anthea.owens@fermanaghomagh.com or telephone 0300 303 1777.
