All-Ireland Pipe Band and Drum Major Championships attracts thousands of visitors

More than 5,000 visitors attended the 70th All-Ireland Pipe Band and Drum Major Championships in Omagh on Saturday 4 July 2015.

The Championships, hosted by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council in partnership with the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association NI Branch, involved more than 60 of the top performing pipe bands from across Ireland and 40 entries across all levels in the Drum Major competitions on the day.

Vice Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Paul Robinson, was appointed as Chieftain of the event. Speaking at the event Councillor Robinson said the Council was delighted to work in partnership with the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association NI Branch to bring the event to Omagh. The Vice Chairman also thanked all those involved in organising the event.

Omagh last hosted the All-Ireland Pipe Band and Drum Major Championships 14 years ago. This year’s event was held at Mellon Playing Fields, Omagh Academicals Rugby Football Club.

We are currently working on the basis that Council services will resume as normal tomorrow (Tuesday 17 October 2017) however we will be keeping this under review. This position may change depending on weather conditions.
