About the Event

Mon 29 to Sat 4 July  Wooden Boat Building in Fermanagh: Display and information gathering days.

Clinker built boats, cots and their use.    Enniskillen Library 10 am to 4pm

The people who built and used these boats were involved in many of

the activities on the lough;  fishing, farming, leisure, sport, drainage, transport, navigation and civilian support

to  the RAF in World War II.  Photographs, anecdotes and artefacts from that era will be on display to which

can be added your stories, photographs, cine film and images or original boats and artefacts which you may

still have.  Meet some of the people from Lough Erne Heritage who are the organisers of the event and whose aims

are to preserve and promote the heritage of traditional wooden boat building which took place on and

around Lough Erne. The skills and knowledge required in building boats are still retained by some local people.

On the day stories can be recorded, images scanned and artefacts photographed eg hand tools, early

Outboard engines  and of course original clinker boats.cot
