About the Event
Play On by Rick Abbott, directed by Siobhan O’Brien is a play within a play; comedy follows an amateur dramatics society as they prepare for their annual drama, suitably titled ‘Murder Most Foul’.
Act 1 is set just 3 nights before ‘Murder Most Foul’ debuts, and we are introduced to the cast of the melodrama, a dysfunctional bunch of amateur performers where tensions between members are simmering. The director is reaching his wits end as the set remains unfinished, cast members are still learning their lines, backstage crew interrupt the rehearsals at every turn and the novice writer makes sweeping plot changes on a daily basis.
pandemonium ensues during Act 2 as the ‘Murder most Foul’ attempt a dress rehearsal just 24 hours before the opening night. As the play edges ever closer, and a final version of the script is still in development, it is anyone’s guess as to whether the show will go ahead.
Act 3 sees the opening night performance of ‘Murder Most Foul’ and with stress levels at an all time high for both the cast and crew it is safe to say that the drama won’t just go according to plan.
‘Play On’ is a lively fare featuring a well known cast and for anyone who has ever been involved in amateur dramatics it is sure to open a mixed bag of emotions.
