Irish Maritime Art & Coastal Perspective; Thursday 7 April 2016  at 7pm– “It’s all there.  It’s all in the sea.  The battle of life is there.  And fate. And the inevitability of it all. Maritime painting is a genre that was at its height during the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries.  Practitioners in Ireland historically include; William van der-Hagen (d 1745), National Grogan the Elder (1740-1807), George Mounsey Wheatley Atkinson (1806-1884), Richard Peterson Atkinson (c.1840-1992) and Kenneth King (b1939).

Painting, Sculpture & Performance Art in Northern Ireland 1969 – 1999; Thursday 14 April at 7pm – In 2015 a major exhibition featuring artists’ responses to the Troubles in Northern Ireland was initiated by Wolverhampton Art Gallery in conjunction with the Ulster Museum.  This talk explores a personal selection of paintings, drawings, photographs, videos and sculpture.  It also features performance art that has established itself well in Northern Ireland over its 40 year history but is still somewhat neglected in terms of its representation in Northern Ireland.  Artists featured in this talk will include F.E. McWilliam, Rita Duffy, Jack Packenham, Alastair MacLennan, Dermot Seymour, Philip Napier, and Victor Sloan.

An Overview of Contemporary Painting; Thursday 21 April at 7pm – This lecture provides an overview of contemporary painting and features a range of artists, most of whom have previously shown at Strule Arts Centre.  Featured artists are diverse and include; Brian Ballard (b1942), John Kindness (b1951), Geraldine O’Neill and Comhghall Casey.  This overview is designed to demonstrate the range of painting being produced today and put Donegal born Comhgall Casey in context to coincide with his retrospective exhibition running concurrently at Strule Arts Centre.

Contemporary Architecture for the Arts in Ireland; Thursday 28 April at 7pm – Over  the past twenty years there has been a renaissance in terms of contemporary architecture for culture and art in Ireland.  Projects included in this lecture include; The Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny, Strule Arts Centre, Omagh, An Gaeleras/Culturlann, Derry, The Model, Sligo and The Playhouse, Derry.
