About the Event
Well known Protestant and Unionist Irish Language Campaigner Linda Ervine from the East Belfast Mission will speak at an event organised by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council in conjunction with Omagh Church’s Forum. The event entitled Protestants and the Irish Language will look to address the reservations that Protestants may have around the Irish Language. It will take place in Strule Arts Centre, Omagh on Thursday 29 September at 7.30pm and is open to all members of the public.
The event will open with a talk by Linda Ervine, telling her story of how she has in recent years developed an Irish Language Centre on the Unionist Newtownards Road in East Belfast and how people from that community are now engaging in learning Irish.
This will be followed with an open discussion. Local councillors and MLAs from all the main political parties and members of the Omagh Church’s Forum have been invited to come along and take part in this discussion. This is an effort to promote mutual cultural understanding and ensure that our shared cultural heritage is engaged in by people from all sections of our community.
