About the Event
Neil has been gardening professionally since 1980 and is still learning! Neil gained experience at The Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh, at Hillier’s Nursery and Bristol Zoo before becoming a Head Gardener in 1990. Neil has a BSc Hons in Horticulture and Landscape Management from the University of Greenwich and an MA in Garden History at the University of Bristol. With The National Trust from 1998, firstly as Head Gardener at Clumber Park, Nottinghamshire and then as Gardens & Parks Advisor, where Neil first got to know Mount Stewart. Neil moved to Ireland in 2007 when he was Head Gardener and Estate Manager at Ballynatray, Co. Waterford and started back with the National Trust as Head of Gardens, Mount Stewart and Regional Gardens & Parks Advisor NI in 2011. In his current role, he has been lucky enough to travel – exploring how plants grow in North East India, South Africa and Myanmar, with a trip planned to Tasmania next January.
