About the Event
75th Anniversary of US Troops arrival in N Ireland
Headhunters Railway Museum will be hosting a children’s living history event in Enniskillen Library from 11am to 3 pm to commemorate this event. More than 300,000 US soliders were stationed in NI during WWII as they waited to be deployed to Europe and African.
There were 25 bases in Fermanagh including Crom Castle, Castle Coole, Castle Archdale, Killadeas, Necarne, Belle Isle, Colebrooke, Ely Lodge and Celtic Park. This children’s event will include an opportunity to speak to Mike Gilmore, originally from Irvinestown with his extensive display of US WWII artefacts and memorabilia which he takes to primary schools to help educate children about this period of our history. Juke will be joined by several US jeeps and their owners dressed in US uniform. Headhunters Railway Museum will also be open for guided tours throughout the day with free admission.
